An outstanding leader in his field and a determined strategist, Mtre. Jean-Pierre Casavant is actively involved in training the next generation of lawyers. He has given seminars on advocacy techniques for the Quebec Bar at the University of Sherbrooke for over 15 years. He often gives lectures in his fields of expertise, particularly in the areas of product liability, insurance and other liability issues of interest to insurers.
In 2015 he was awarded the prestigious Advocatus Emeritus (Ad.E.) designation by the Quebec Bar for his professional excellence, outstanding professional contribution and exceptional social commitment.

In 2001, Mtre. Casavant was listed in the Lexpert/American Lawyer Media Guide as one of the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada whose focus is Commercial Insurance and Product Liability. He is also named as one of the “most recognized lawyers” in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in the fields of Commercial Insurance, Life and Health Insurance, Product Liability and Professional Liability and is profiled as one of the “most frequently recommended” and “most consistently recommended” practitioners in Montreal.
Prior to founding Casavant Mercier with Joël Mercier in 2007, Mtre. Casavant spent 35 years working in insurance law at Montreal law firm Lavery de Billy. He has been a member of various Law Society committees, including the Committee on Current Issues Related to Private Practice and the Future of the Profession, and the Committee on Work-Family Balance. Mtre. Casavant has taught at the Insurance Institute of Quebec and has given lectures for the University of Quebec in Montreal’s civil liability course. He often lectures on insurance-related issues and conducts seminars for the Quebec Institute of Damage Insurance.
