Areas of Practice

Mtre. Bédard specializes in commercial and civil litigation, insurance law, professional liability, product liability and construction law. In this capacity, she acts before the civil courts, administrative and disciplinary tribunals. Over the years, she acquired extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution methods.

In the area of insurance law, in addition to defending various insureds, she has developed a specific expertise in the interpretation of property insurance contracts, civil and general liability, professional liability (errors and omissions) and directors’ and officers’ liability policies. She represents insurers before the courts in matters relating to the interpretation of insurance policies.

In construction law, she represents clients, general contractors, subcontractors and professionals in a variety of disputes, including delay and impact cost claims. She represents and advises insurers in connection with the interpretation and implementation of Builders risk and Wrap-Up policies.

Mtre. Bédard is consistently recognized in The Best Lawyers® Directory in insurance law, construction law and professional malpractice law and by The Legal Lexpert® Directory in litigation, commercial insurance and professional liability. In 2022 she was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Insurance Law in Montreal by The Best Lawyers® Directory.

Professional Activities

An efficient litigator and negotiator, Mtre. Bédard has been specializing in insurance and construction law for over twenty years. Mtre. Bédard is regularly invited as a speaker on a wide range of topics pertaining to risk management, insurance, civil and construction law and she also writes articles on certain topics of interest. In 2016, she gave a conference on Wellington Motions during the 2016 annual Quebec Bar Conference on recent developments in insurance law, which led to the publication of an article in early 2017. In 2021, Mtre. Isabelle Casavant and Mtre. Bédard wrote an article entitled “La demande de type Wellington : tendances jurisprudentielles des six dernières années”, published by the Québec Bar in « Développements en droit des assurances (2021) ».

In 2017 and 2018, Mtre. Bédard acted as a moderator for the « Cercles d’enrichissement » of the Association of Quebec Women in Finance during which she also gave a conference on negotiation skills (March 2018). She was a speaker for the Bar of Montreal in a conference entitled “Demystifying Insurance”.

She also offers her clients tailor-made training and conferences, as do other members of the firm.
